Why the change?

Thanks to customer feedback and a deep dive into our data quality analysis, we’ve revamped our questions to make them more precise, engaging, and data-friendly. Our analysis identified opportunities to refine our survey questions for clarity, precision, and alignment with best practices. Here are some of our findings:

  • Some questions, like "bullying and discrimination," could be interpreted in multiple ways.
  • Some questions could be rephrased to align better with the Likert scale.
  • Some questions could be shortened, sharpened, and simplified.
  • Some questions could use grammatical tweaks.

What has changed?

The improved survey questions primarily use statements rather than direct questions to enhance clarity, standardization, and consistency. This method fosters more honest and thoughtful responses, ultimately improving the quality of the collected data. Below are three examples:

Old version New version
Do you feel that your immediate manager/supervisor at (company name) is available when you need to get in contact with him/her? I am able to contact my immediate manager when I need to.
To what extent do you have the ability to make decisions regarding your own work at (company name)? I am able to make decisions regarding my own work at (company name).
Do you feel that you have the right conditions to be able to do a good job? I have the right conditions to do my job well.

Other changes:

  • One new question under the personal development category
  • Three decommissioned questions
  • Two questions moved to a new category
  • One question split into two

Insights on bullying, discrimination, and harassment have been categorized into three distinct insights, each aligned with a specific survey question.

Validation & testing

Based on customer feedback and insights from a cross-functional team, our People Science team, along with support from Leif Denti from Gothenburg University, refined and updated the questions. The final version was then validated by gathering real survey responses. We conducted rigorous psychometric testing based on scientific principles to ensure the reliability and validity of the questions. During the validation process, our goal was to ensure that the questions:

  • Align appropriately with their respective categories.
  • Maintain backward compatibility with previous versions.
  • Capture sufficient information relevant to each category.

What Happens to Historical Data?

Historical data remains unchanged. Additionally, historical data will be linked to the updated questions for most of the questions, with a few exceptions:

  • Three decommissioned questions – No new responses will be collected, but historical data remains accessible.
  • Two questions moved to another category – Past data stays in historical records, while future responses follow the updated structure.
  • One question is split into two – Historical data stays unchanged, while new responses are recorded separately under the revised format.

Additionally, the data will not be impacted in other parts of Winningtemp.

Get Started!

System Administrators will see a pop-up introducing the updated survey questions. Before deciding, review any modified questions by clicking "Review edited questions."

You now have two options:

  • Keep our modified questions – Keep all modified questions while updating the rest.
  • Reset to new questions (recommended) – Use the updated questions as designed.

After you decide, the update and your surveys will be ready in a couple of minutes.

⚠️Important!

This decision affects your entire Winningtemp instance and can be made by any System Administrator. We recommend agreeing on who should handle the transition.

What's Next?

  1. If you want to use our new question, add it manually. In the specific survey settings, enable "The organization supports and encourages my personal development" in the Personal Development category. Learn how in our help center.
  2. If you keep your modifications, review them to ensure they align with the new questions—otherwise, your survey may include a mix of statement-based and non-statement-based questions. Customize a standard question.
