Get to know the different team types

Core + Flex = Full engagement coverage

Winningtemp lets you manage your organisation through two parallel team structures: Core teams and Flex teams. This setup is perfect for today’s way of working, whether it's a classic line organisation or a matrix, product, or project-oriented organisation.

Employees can be part of both team types at the same time, on Core and several Flex teams. This provides a clear view of engagement across all team setups, allowing you to identify trends, support the right teams, and take action where it matters most.

When to use which team type

  Core team Flex teams 🆕
When to use Use Core teams for teams that follow your organisational chart – often called the line organisation. Use Flex teams for project groups, initiatives, or other collaborative setups that span across departments.

Two team types – different manager responsibilities

Managers see different data depending on the team type. See below:

💡Tips

  1. Include all relevant teams in the survey send-out to ensure everyone’s feedback is captured and reflected in the results. Read more - Setup a pulse survey

  2. Team-mapped questions are only sent to team members. Managers, for example, will not receive these questions unless they are added as team members.

Organisational structures

Both team types follow the same structure: each team has a manager, and comments are aggregated similarly.

  • Core teams can be created directly in Winningtemp, via Excel import, or through an integration.

  • Flex teams can be added directly in Winningtemp (with more options coming soon).

Read more about integrations: Import users to Winningtemp and Learn more about user integrations.

💡 Delegate team management

To save time and keep team data accurate, System administrators can set up the parent team in Winningtemp, and can then assign a local Admin to:

  • Set up and manage sub-teams
  • Move employees in and out of teams as needed

This way, team updates can be handled locally without the System Administrator needing to manage every change.

Teams vs segments

Segments are groupings you can use to filter and analyse results, based on attributes like location, role, or seniority.

  • Segments don’t support comments or insights
  • Segments don't support managers
  • Segments are not tied to Pulse survey structure or eNPS

Use segments when you need:

  • Temporary analysis setups
  • Demographic breakdowns (e.g. by age or department)

Get started!

  1. Create a new team
  2. Add managers, users and other role - Assign, or unassign, roles
  3. Setup a pulse survey
  4. Add the team to a Pulse survey - Edit a pulse survey
  5. Add the team to a Focus survey - Get started with focus surveys
  6. What is Question Mapping?
